Abrasive Blasting / Mass Finishing

While Shot peening is designed to alter the sub–surface mechanical properties of a material, the abrasive blasting and mass finishing processes are designed to alter the surface only. Abrasive blasting is also known as ‘shot blasting’ and Mass Finishing is frequently referred to as Vibratory Deburring. Most commonly used to remove scale from heat treat, loose flash from a casting operation or to radius sharp edges and burrs from a stamping press, these processes will provide for a consistent finish and safe handling.

Establishing the right process with the optimal media is key to providing the proper finish, whether it is a gentle radius, removing a standing burr or removing scale on stainless steel without inducing ferrous contamination. Godfrey and Wing maintains an media inventory of over 40,000 lbs ranging from the largest shot to the smallest aluminum oxides. Our machines have load capacities ranging from 3,000 lbs to 10 lbs. This ensures that our customer’s part can be matched right machine and the right material and meet the most stringent finishing requirement.
